How To Measure / Door Swing

 

Pre-hung door sizes encompass the frame and threshold within the door dimensions.

 

  • Door Width: The size of the door is determined by measuring from the exterior edge of the jamb or frame to the exterior edge of the opposite jamb or frame.

  • Door Height: The door size is determined by measuring from the top of the frame to the bottom of the threshold.

For instance, a 72 x 96″ double door measurement includes the frame/jamb dimensions.

We recommend that the rough opening dimensions be at least 1″ wider and 1/2″ taller than the iron door to allow for adjustments during installation.

A 6″ jamb is the standard choice for walls with 2×4 construction. If your walls are constructed with 2×6 framing, you may wish to explore a custom order with an 8″ jamb or utilize trim.
